Hip Hop

Hip hop has changed decade to decade, from the 80s when it first began, to the 90s when Notorious B.I.G., Dr. Dre, and Missy Elliot ruled the scene, the recent hip hop featuring major artists such as Jay Z, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, and many others. Hip hop in its earlier years was more of rapping about real life struggles and what was going on in the world. Today, many rappers are profiting off of the hip hop music industry by selling records where there is only one word you can understand and its usually profanity or some slang term. Yet, there are still some artists who remain true to their craft and produce musical and hip hop master pieces that allow a glimpse into their lives and real world struggles. For those artist, we are grateful.

Jay Z

Since the 90s, Jay Z has been gracing us with real hip hop albums. His recent 4:44 is an honest look into his infidelity and marraige to Beyonce. The Story of O.J. sheds light on the hardships of being a black man in today's world, just as he does in all of his albums. He constantly teams up with other artists to make some of the greatest features that can be found. Off his new album, 4:44 is the most honest of his songs, begging for forgiveness from his wife after cheating. Jay Z has many songs featuring Beyonce, making them a dynamic and powerful duo.

Drake is one of the most evolved rappers that has come across hip hop. Starting with his first album in 2009, fresh off of Degrassi, So Far Gone featured Best I Ever Had, a song loved by the masses. Take Care, his most loved and well known album was about heartbreak and his naked emotions. These are some of the most recognized songs of the decade. If You're Reading This It's Too Late suprised everyone with 17 tracks and much confrontation. Views and his latest album More Life are inexplicably some of his best work. In these albums you find Drake expanding and singing more in his work. Drake has always been honest in his work without being perverse or derogatory like many of these wanna be hip hop artists coming out of the woodwork lately.
