Machu Picchu the ancient Inca city, rediscovered as the early 20th century, but for some reason, was completely abandoned some 100 years later. Not only Machu Picchu but lots of archaeological sites spread through Peru show the perfection that this culture had in mind, and the vision they worked hard for. Unfortunately, most of the cities built by the Incas were destroyed by Spanish conquistadors, but Machu Picchu was in a hidden place, invisible for them, That is why this place survived.


This momumental place survived, and it’s the most well-preserved Inca cities an archaeological jewel. Some scientists say Machu Picchu was an astronomical observatory, also its sacred Intihuatana stone exactly indicates the two equinoxes. Twice a year, the sun sits directly over the stone and generates no shadow.

Machu Picchu is called the “lost city” because the jungle had literally swallowed it when Yale explorer Hiram Bingham III “rediscovered” it in 1911. When the overgrown vegetation was removed, the complex of ruins was revealed.
