At first sight, the pristine white façade of Villa Ayas recalls the island’s traditional fincas. But the other side of the house, facing the garden, reveals its modern, design-savvy spirit. The pearlescent grey patio, topped off with a glass railing, looks out over the pool. Inside, behind the vast patio doors, the décor is resolutely contemporary. “Street art” canvases provide a colourful counterpoint to the sleek furnishings, with Japanese coffee tables, a spotless white kitchen and a minimalist wooden dining table. In the bedrooms, tasselled cushions and hand-woven rugs nod to Ibiza’s bohemian soil, while arty vases recall the polished glass pebbles that wash up on the beach with the morning surf.
After a good lie-in to sleep off last night’s festivities, let the recuperation continue in the shade of KM5’s Bedouin tents, a stone’s throw from the villa. Tuck into an Oriental octopus salad, or a fresh Peruvian ceviche. Then hop back in the car to travel the few miles to the white sands of Cala d’Hort, on the south coast. Stretch out in the afternoon sun, lulled by the sound of the waves and the splashing of paddle boarders. When the sun begins to sink toward the horizon, get together on the patio to share exotic cocktails, comfortably settled on the plush couches with their colourful cushions.
The village of Sant Josep de Sa Talaia takes its name from Ibiza’s highest mountain, atop which it sits. From the summit, marvel at the panoramic view over the island’s unspoilt beauty: the hillsides studded with Aleppo pines and juniper bushes, hamlets of little white cottages surrounded by olive groves, and of course the endless blue expanse of the Mediterranean. Passing through the village, headed west towards the turquoise waters and warm sands of Cala Tarida, you’ll soon come across Villa Ayas.
