RuPaul's Drag Race is an American reality competition series produced by World of Wonder for Logo TV and later VH1 and Now MTV. Drag superstar RuPaul is the host, mentor, main judge and inspiration for this series, which details RuPaul's search for "America's Next Drag Superstar."
The show was greenlit in May 2008 and premiered on
February 2, 2009, on Logo in the US.
The show has been
aired on Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Hungary,
Ireland, Italy, Latin America, Spain, Sweden, the Philippines,
and the UK; the streaming service Netflix has from Season 11
to Season 13 available on their online contents in many countries.
There have been sixteen seasons to date, nine All Stars seasons,
and also twenty-one seasons of Untucked (15 for the regular seasons
and 6 for All Stars).
There have also been 16 International Spinoffs
in Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and Australia.
RuPaul Andre Charles, better known simply as RuPaul, is an American drag performer, actor, television host, and recording artist. RuPaul is well known for appearing in several films, and being the host and judge for his own popular reality television series RuPaul's Drag Race, for which he has received 14 Primetime Emmy Awards as of 2024.
RuPaul is considered to be the most commercially successful drag queen in the United States. In 2017, he was included in the annual Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world.
