Title: The Silent Patient
Author: Alex Michaelides
Rating: 5/5
Review: I will admit - I did read this book because of the hype (and also
a decent amount of my friends recommended it). I am glad to say that it did not
dissapoint. The book focuses on a psychotherapist
who is trying to understand why a woman killed her husband and has refused to
say a single word in the seven years since his death. This was a slow,
pyschological thriller that had me desperate to figure out not only why she did it,
but why she did not speak following the murder.
There were a few surprises throughout the novel that kept me on my toes but
nothing could have prepared me for the ending. I absolutely love the way the author
worked the reveal into plot and I was impressed by how much I couldn't see it until
it hit me in the face.
Title: The Guest List
Author: Lucy Foley
Rating: 4/5
Review: Foley's "The Guest List" was easy to read and hard to put down. The concept of this
murder mystery was intriguing - a person is murdered at a wedding but you do not know who the murderer
is OR who was murdered. The book has five different perspectives (including both the killer and the victim)
which makes it fun to try and figure out who is who. Foley leaves a lot of clues about the murderer,
so I was able to solve that mystery quite early on (a little dissapointing). However, I was captivated
trying to figure out the murder victim and I was surprised when I found out. One thing I did not like
was that the whole book took place over two days. I felt like there was no closure at the end and I wished there
was at least an epilogue to see how the other characters were dealing with the aftermath.
Title: Verity
Author: Colleen Hoover
Rating: 5/5
Review: Verity is the book that originally got me on a thriller kick. I know
that Colleen Hoover is known for her cheesy (but still enjoyable) romance novels so I was
pleasantly surprised by this book. The story follows Lowen, a struggling writer,
take a job as a ghost writer for Verity, a famous author who has sustained serious injuries.
While trying to sort through Verity's notes for potential story ideas, Lowen finds
a horrifying autobiography about Verity's life and debates whether she should tell Verity's husband,
...who she begins to develop feelings for. I can honestly say I did not see the ending coming and
I am still trying to figure out whose story I truly believe. It was creepy and entrhalling and I love a good
book that makes you question small intereactions you missed after you put it down.
