Top 10 Reasons To Choose Alternative Energy Sources
Posted by Green Energy | Filed under Green Energy, Altrenative Sources of Energy
Alternative energy sources are a popular topic of conversation these days, as many believe they hold a promising solution to meeting our current energy needs in a clean and environmentally friendly way. These renewable resources get their energy from naturally occurring phenomena such as sunlight, wind, water, biofuels, tidal and wave power, and geothermal heat. There are many reasons to move toward alternative energy sources in your home. Here are the 10 most prominent.
Holy Grail of energy policy in sight as battery technology smashes the old order
Posted by Green Energy | Filed under Green Energy, Altrenative Sources of Energy
The world’s next energy revolution is probably no more than five or ten years away. Cutting-edge research into cheap and clean forms of electricity storage is moving so fast that we may never again need to build 20th Century power plants in this country, let alone a nuclear white elephant such as Hinkley Point.
The US Energy Department is funding 75 projects developing electricity storage, mobilizing teams of scientists at Harvard, MIT, Stanford, and the elite Lawrence Livermore and Oak Ridge labs in a bid for what it calls the ‘Holy Grail’ of energy policy.
FROM THE LAB TO THE MARKET WITH MICHAEL AZIZ: COMMERCIALIZING RENEWABLE ENERGY STORAGE TECHNOLOGY CLOSER TO A REALITY
Posted by Green Energy | Filed under Green Energy, Altrenative Sources of Energy
January 25, 2016 – Michael Aziz’s vision that one day the vast majority of our electricity will come from renewable sources like wind and solar could become a reality sooner than he thinks. The Harvard University engineer and his team are making inroads to storing renewable energy more cost effectively, therefore opening up a potential big market for wind and solar. In particular, Aziz has developed battery storage technology that allows energy to be stored in inexpensive, abundant, non-toxic organic molecules, called quinones, found in nature. These are dissolved in water – so they can’t catch fire – and can be energized and then stored outside the battery container itself in arbitrarily large holding tanks for a greatly reduced cost.

The Chemistry Behind The Battery That Could Outperform Tesla's Powerwall
Posted by Green Energy | Filed under Green Energy, Altrenative Sources of Energy
OK, so how does all this relate to lithium-ion batteries like the Tesla Powerwall? Recall that a flow battery is designed so that you can scale up the power (the hardware that converts chemical energy to electricity) and the energy storage (the tanks) independently. If you want your charge to last longer, and you have a flow battery, you build a bigger tank.
