Cascia, Saint Rita's hometown

Interior of the Basilica of Saint Rita of Cascia, formerly the Monastery of Saint Mary Magdalene

This is the interior of the Basilica of Saint Rita of Cascia. This sanctuary was built to not only house the relics of Saint Rita, but also to celebrate her life. Saint Rita, born as Margherita Ferri Lotti, was a remarkable woman and a role model to follow, since she endured a life full of challenges. One night during prayer in Roccaporena, she implored her patron saints: Saint Augustine of Hippo, Saint John the Baptist and Saint Nicholas of Tolentine to assist her into getting to the Convent of Saint Mary Magdalene. Her patron saints helped her. Since then, she started the road to become a saint. One night during prayer in the convent, she recieved the stigmatas in her head, which was the response of the Lord.

This is one of the most impacting trips i have ever made, since going on a pilgrimage to Cascia helped me to reflect on my academic years and my life. Not only reflect but also i paid my respects and prayed to Saint Rita herself. I truly reccomend going to this hidden gem of Italy since it serves as a place of reflection.

Augustinian saints that are displayed at the main apse of the interior of the Basilica.

As i walked in the interior of the Church of Saint Rita, i noticed these Augustinian saints that were standing on the main apse of the Sanctuary's altar. It was amazing to see several important Augustinian saints, starting from the figure of Saint Augustine of Hippo , towards the figure of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine which is one of Saint Rita's patron saints. Seeing their images allowed me to learn more of their stories and their importance to the town of Cascia and to the Augustinian order.
