Basilica of Saint Mark the Evangelist

This is a image of the main basilica of Venice, the Basilica of Saint Mark the Evangelist. According to the story, Saint Mark himself was shown a vision by Christ, saying " Peace be upon thee Mark, my evangelist. Here, thy body shalt rest". The Basilica's architectural structure is based on one of the important churches in Constantinople, The Church of the Holy Apostles.

I was present here during this October and it was beautiful. I had the opportunity to enter the basilica and marvel at its mosaics with saints. This basilica had to be one of my favorite locations to visit since not only i went to Venice for my Thesis, but also i went to admire the baslilica's treasures that were brought from Constantinople from the 4th crusade.

The four horses of the hippodrome of Constantinople.

Here, you can see the statues of the four horses of the Hippodrome of Constantinople. These statues are of course a replica while the real ones are inside the museum of San Marco. The four horses were brought from Constantinople by the Venetian Crusaders during the fourth crusade and ever since it has become part of Venice's identity as a rich cultural city.

As a Byzantine enthusiast, i absolutely loved seeing these four horses since it signifues that the legacy of Constantinople now lives on Venice. Not only the horses were brought from the fourth crusade but also the imperial chalices and relics of important saints that are now housed in the treasury of San Marco. I absolutely reccomend going here, specially if you love history.
