When we think of environmental issues we often limit our role to the transportation sector and domestic water use. We need to take a closer look at the environmental impacts of our diets, specifically the consumption of animal products. When we think of suffering, we rightly often focus on human issues. However, broadening our compassion to all species does not take away from our compassion for humanity. When we think of our health, some of the worst habits that come to mind are using tobacco and consuming alcohol. To better understand our health and some of the most prevalent diseases we face today, we must further examine our diets and the health risks of consuming animal products. Our health, the health of our planet and the wellbeing of animals is being undermined by one of the largest and least sustainable industries in the world, animal husbandry. Animal husbandry refers to the rearing of animals for the production of meat, dairy and eggs. In order to sustain humanity, we the consumers must educate ourselves on the ethics of the industries we support.
