The city of Rome was founded in 753 BC. It has a population of almost four and a half million people.
It first became the capital of the Kingdom of Rome, then the Roman Republic, and eventually the Roman
Empire. Now it is the capital of Italy. The city welcomes around 10 million visitors each year. This city is a
perfect destination for anyone wanting to learn about western culture because of its many historical sites.
If you're not in the mood for a guided tour of ancient Roman ruins, you can always trave to the beach for a
hot day in the sun. Regardless of what you choose to do, there are some things that every potenial tourist
needs to know before booking a ticket to Rome.
My favorite place to visit hands down is the Colosseum, and the best time to visit is at night.
The guided tours at night are less crowded and a lot more fun. Learning about the ancient gladiatorial
battles is so interesting. The Romans used to also watch trained hunters try to kill large exotic animals
like rhinos, elephants, and lions. The museum located within the colosseum features animal bones, statues,
and hunting tools. Stepping into the colosseum feels like entering a time machine taking you back thousands of years.
The aqueducts are another great place to visit. There is an aqueduct park featuring ancient aqueduct ruins.
Visiting the large park is the perfect daytime excursion. If you are visiting Rome with your family, I
definitely recommend bringing your kids. You can kick around a soccer ball and eat under the arches.
If you are visiting with a spouse, I recommend bringing a blanket and having a romantic picnic in the
grass. Don't forget to take pictures so that you can remember it forever, believe me you'll want to.
I had always thought that the United States made some pretty good pizza, but it does not compare to Rome.
The pizza in Rome is incredible. Each place you go to eat is better than the last. They serve pizza
differently in Rome. In the U.S., they sell it by the slice or by a whole pie. In Rome you can show
them exactly the size you want and they will weigh it, thus determining the cost. So, you can ask for
a huge chunk of pizza for you and your friends, or a small little piece as a snack.
