About Yerevan
Yerevan, also spelled Erevan, is the capital of Armenia. It is situated on the Hrazdan River, 14 miles(23km) from the Turkish frontier.
Modern Yerevan, which climbs the hillsides from the deep trench of the Hrazdan, is an attractive city in a fine natural setting framed by the extinct volcanic peaks of Mount Aragats to the north and Mount Ararat across the Turkish to the south.
Many modern buildings along its tree-lined streets have been constructed in traditional Armenian styles and of variously coloured local stone.
Yerevan is often pegged as the ‘Pink City’ because of the colour of the stones used to build much of the city centre, which is a compact area known as Kentron.
This area, amongst others, has been greatly developed over the past decade, resulting in more restaurants, cafés, shops and hotels.
The capital city is fast becoming a major tourist destination thanks to its numerous landmarks, extensive nightlife, great museums and lovely parks.
Presently, Yerevan offers a variety of activities to go for and a number of places to visit and see.
Since Armenians are considered one of the hospitable people in the world no tourist ever remains dissatisfied or feels like in a foreign country.
The main places of interest are particularly concentrated in the central part of the city and therefore, are all within easy reach.
