The Throwing Events

What are the Events?

The throwing events in Track and Field have a very long history, as the Discus and Javelin events were part of the Original Olympic Games in Athens during the times of the Ancient Greeks. Not long after, the Shotput throw was added. The pictures to the left show each of the five throwing events: Discus, Hammer, Javelin, Shotput, and Weight throw. A picture of a throwing cage can be seen below.

A few more Details

Today, all events are competed in by Men and Women of all ages. (Except Hammer, which in the US, athletes learn in University because a sturdier cage is required than the one used for Discus and Shotput and many High Schools do not have the money to fund such an expensive piece of equipment. Hammer cages go for OVER 20,000 EURO!
