Go Strategies
The Go is often most important because it requires less luck and more skill than Pegging
This is because, in high level play, one can pick up the extra few points needed for victory. Pegging is more dependent on luck, so with two equal players it balances out overall. The Go can tip the balance in the favor of one player or the other.
Avoid
- When in the go, avoid playing a five as your first card, things worth ten are the most common card in the game so getting fifteen is easy for your opponent.
- Try to avoid playing pairs unless you know your opponent does not posses, you can be heavily punished if not careful. Pairs are still a good play but be mindful.
- This rule also applies to runs as you don't want to set your oppnent up to get four points when you only recieved three.
Things to try to do
- When possible, as long as it does not expose you to your opponent getting points, play higher value cards as the lower value cards can be used to gain points by making your opponent
go.
- Try to hold onto fives as face things worth ten are common so in the second or third pile it is likely your opponent will play one to start the pile.
- Keep track of cards played and the ones in your crib as thoses are ones you don't have to worry about and this information should be used to inform your plays.
- If you are in the final stretch of the match and it is close you can focus on trying to score the winning points in the go by saving lower cards, and fives; combinations can be played in the go but are hard to pull off as they depend on your opponent. Overall focus on pegging for points though.
