1. Research and Book in Advance

Always try to research before you go. Things you should look at are weather, local customs, dress codes and currency. Make sure you know the basics of what to expect before you step off the plane. You’ll make better choices and get the most out of your trip. Always book your first night’s stay regardless. And always have a backup plan.

2. Face Your Fears

Travel is all about going out of your comfort zone, and growing.Don’t let your fears or concerns of getting lost stop you from discovering yourself and the world.

3. Avoid Overpacking

Pack What You Need! belive me you do not want to be carrying around a heavy suitcase. Nine times out of ten, you’ll stuff your luggage with items that end up never seeing the light of day. Avoid overpacking with a few generic tips. First, Pack only a few shirts and pants/jeans that you can mix and match. 4. Try To Blend In

Standing out too much as a foreigner can attract tourist scams. Blend in as a local and you’ll be able to observe so much more of your host country. Dress the way locals dress. Talk at an appropriate volume. Learn to listen and watch, and the world will unfold before you.

5. Smile

Smiling goes a long way, especially if you and the locals don’t speak the same language. Remember, not all locals are looking to take advantage of tourists, and a smile can lead to a friendly encounter or a good conversation.

6. Let Someone Know

Leave your itinerary or brief outline of destinations with someone back home, as well as a photocopy of your passport. When you’re going out for the day, it is also smart to let someone at home know where you’re headed, just in case.

7. Have a Backup Plan

Make sure you keep the address to your hotel somewhere on you, in case you get lost, run out of baterry on your phone, need directions or need a taxi to bring you back. Carry your passport in a well-concealed place when you’re traveling between destinations. Keep an extra $50-100 somewhere safe in your luggage or on you when exploring for the day. Do not carry around you passport during the day.

8. Enjoy

It can be stressful being in an unfamiliar place by yourself. You’re here. Take it in, slowly, bravely, one step at a time and enjoy. Always enjoy.
