Antigua Guatemala

A long time ago Antigua Guatemala was known for being the capital of the country. Now, this beautiful place located 14°34′N 90°44′W about 50 minutes from the city. La Antigua is most commonly known for its european style street, for its breathtaking landscapes and for being surrounded by volcanoes. This is a place where you find people from all over the word, the United States, France, Italy, Germany and from so many other countries. Antigua Guatemala is also recognized by its pintorestic street, by its mayan heritage, and by its amazing food. Here you find some of the best restaurants in the country and some of the best “mercados artesanales,” if you are insisted in taking a beautiful traditional souvenir back home this might be the place.
Moreover, Antigua lights up during the festivities, such as the New Year or “Semana Santa” commonly known in the United States as spring break. During this festivities the streets are decorated with carpets made out of “aserrin” and there are also numerous “procesiones” which are one of the countries oldest traditions. Antigua is a place where you can eat good food, make good friends, and be part and experience the Guatemalan culture.

In Antigua you can walk around and enjoy the colorful streets and treat yourself to delicious food. If you walk in the famous street of El Arco de Santa Catalina you will find a famous market that sells all kinds of traditional textiles and great suvenious. You can also visit Cerro de la Cruz which has a beautiful view where you can enjoy Antigua. Nevertheless, you can visit some old ruins which have so much history and show you how Antigua was many years back. Iglesia y Convento de las Capuchinas are some beautiful ruins.
