THE CITY

Madrid
Madrid is the capital and the utmost center city of Spain. As the capital, it is the most populated city in the Iberian Peninsula, fifth in Europe, with more than 7 million people residing within the metropolitan area. The Iberian Peninsula is made of two neighbouring countries: Portugal and Spain. The city of Madrid dates back to the year 800, when the Muslim Empire took the Peninsula under the name of Al-Andalus. Madrid was chosen as a key location for defense against enemies, hence its first settlements, all military related. Prior to the 15th Century, Madrid was part of the State of Castilla, a medieval part of Spain founded by the King Carlos I. After the medieval ages, Madrid was made the capital of Spain, mainly for its wide, plane spaces, which had the potential of constituting the Royal Court and House, as well as various Religious institutions. Madrid is a city full of magic and opportunity. Not only it offers a wide array of cultural sites, historical gastronomic spots, and a very enjoyable nightlife!.
