T A L L I N N

Tallinn was a beautiful fairytale-like village in the country of Estonia. During my Finland trip, my boyfriend and I decided to take a ferry to Estonia from Helsinki, since it was only about 2.5 hours. Old Town Tallinn, or Vanalinn is a UNESCO World Heritage right in the middle of the capital city. It is a historical site, with forts, churches, colorful old buildings, cobblestone streets and cultural food and experiences. There was so much to explore!

In Helsinki, we actually walked to the port. Once there, it was a smooth process to get through. Since we booked online, we didn't have to wait in line or go through passport control. We simply scanned the tickets and walked up towards the terminal we had to go to. We bought our ferry tickets thorugh Eckero Line, which has a variety of options for travel. You can get a standard ticket, or even a cabin! On board, there's shopping, restaurants, cafes, an arcade, a casino, lookout points, and plenty of space to explore. It made the 2 hour ride go by extremely quick, and the food was pretty good, too!

Once we got into Tallinn, it was a 10 minute walk to the Old Town Tallinn entrance. It's basically a straight shot right from the port. Since we were only visitng for a day, we only planned to stay in this Old Town since it was easily accessible, and we knew there were a lot of things to do. I was (and still am) obsessed with the colorful buildings and the atmosphere that Tallinn had. Like I said before, I felt like I was in a fairytale. It was so quiet, as cars aren't allowed inside the gates. There were so many local shops and restaraunts inside to stop in, but also a few well-known chains, (yes, we stopped at Baskin Robbins). We got souveniors and walked around until we found our lunch spot, right on time. We ate a restaurant called Peppersack, and it was amazing. Since we had booked a reservation beforehand, we had and amazing private table on the upper level in the restaurant, so we could oversee everything. The stone walls, the tapestries, the waiter's costumes, the candles and other decorations that made it medieval-like. We felt like we were in an episode of Game of Thrones! The food was all homestyle and absolutey amazing. It was one of my favorite meals out of the whole trip.

After lunch, we toured the Fortification museum, Bastion passages and the Kiek in de Kok. These were underground tunnels full of history. It was really interesting to think about everything that had gone on in that exact spot I was in! Tallinn as a whole was amazing. Whether it was walking around exploring the architecture, taking photos of the medieval stone walls, eating a delcious lunch, or shopping their amber glass collection, I can honestly say, it's one of my favorite places I've been to.
