The North End

mikemodern

Although the North End is an entire neighborhood in Boston, it truly remains one of Boston's hidden gems and most see sites. The North End is pretty much the italian capital of Massachusetts. Every street in this neighborhood is lined with authentic italian restaurants and bakeries. Be sure to get to the North End before 7 pm if you do not want to wait to be seated at one of the many restaurants. Make sure to save room at dinner for some italian pastries. Two of the best known locations here are Modern Pastry and Mike's Pastry. These two italian bakeries hold onto a long standing rivalry regarding who is the best italian bakery in all of Boston. No matter which bakery you decide to go to, I promise you cannot go wrong.

Boston Harbor

Aside from the numerous restaurants and tours offered, Boston Harbor is not a part of Boston that offers a ton of things to do. That being said, the things it does offer are sure to lead to a great day. Boston Harbor has widely known historical significance, it is where the British famously threw tea into the Massachusetts harbor. Today, Boston Harbor offers its visitors many things to do. Such as sit outside and enjoy a meal with a water view, travel to one of the many small islands off the coast, boat services to Nantucket, the North Shore, and Marthas Vineyard, and so much more.

The Lawn on D

The Lawn on D is a rather new destination in Boston. It is a large outdoor gathering space located in Boston's seaport district. The site got its name because of its location on "D Street" in Boston. The Lawn is only open from mid-March to October, during prime New England weather. It has become one of Boston's most sought after sites for young adults becuase of the light-up, circular swings. In addition, during the summer months you can attend one of the numerous outdoor concerts that are held. Events here tend to sell out quickly, so be sure to buy your tickets early.

Swan Boats and Make Way For Ducklings

Both located in Boston Common, the Swan Boats and the Make Way for Ducklings monument are essential spots to hit while in Boston. These sites are located on opposite sides of the Common, but are only a short ten minute walk from one to the other. The Swan Boats are open throughout the year, except during the frigid winter months. They are the perfect activity for people of any age and any size group. For a 15 minute ride around the pond, it only costs $4.00 per person. On the other hand, the Make Way for Ducklings monument is not an activity, rather just a fun little site to quickly see. The site was made in honor of the book "Make Way for Ducklings". It is a small site that features eight ducklings following their mother. In my opinion, this is one of Boston's hidden treasures.
