What is Animal Crossing?

You may have recently seen a lot of excitement about this new game, and may be wondering, "What's all the excitement about?" Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a slice-of-life game where you go around building up your island and making it into a full town! Time in Animal Crossing passes in real time as well. Customize your avatar and buy more customizations over time! You can spend you time building up the best wardrobe possible, if you want. Recruit other villagers onto your island, collect materials to build items, and earn bells by catching and selling bugs and fish! Escape reality for a bit in your own customizable world, do daily tasks to get Nook Miles, and talk to your neighbors. There is no clear objective to reach that you don't set for yourself. Perhaps you want to get your island to a 5-star rating, or maybe fill up the museum with the whole catalogue of fish, bugs, and fossils. Or maybe you want to get specific villagers on your island. The choice is yours!

History

There have been many previous versions of Animal Crossing, and it has built up a fanbase over the years. The very first game was Animal Crossing, which was released in 2001 for the Nintendo 64, and later the Gamecube. After that came Animal Crossing: Wild World in 2005 for the Nintendo DS. This was the first of Animal Crossing to use a Wi-fi connection to allow players onto another person's island (locally only). Then was Animal Crossing: City Folk in 2008 for the Wii, and it let other plays speak to each other during online play. After that was Animal Crossing: New Leaf in 2012 for the 3DS. Nintendo also released a mobile game in 2017, called Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
