The Bench Press

In this section of exercises, we are going to discuss the Bench Press. The Bench Press is an essential exercise in the development of your upper body and more specifically your chest. This page will teach you about the exercise and what muscles it works, grips, a demonstrational video, as well as give you some tips on proper form with the intent of not injuring yourself.

During the bench press, you are exerting a lot of power and force by pushing the barbell up and away from your body in an arch type motion. While doing this you are helping to build stength for multiple muscles. These muscles include your chest or pecs, your shoulders or deltoids, and your triceps.

Grips

Different Grips

There are many different grips that can be used during the Bench Press. Above are just a few of them, although, for beginners we reccommend a standard grip with hand placement shoulders width apart. Each grip has stronger emphasis on diffent muscles but you must find what is comfortable and convenient for you!
