ART

What is lovely about Portofino is its harbor and row of differently colored houses overlooking the sea.

Two buildings are of special importance: The Church of Saint George and the Brown Castle.

The Church of Saint George was built in the 12th century in the Romanesque style. It was then enlarged and restored in the 18th century. During World War II, the church was completely destroyed. It was rebuilt soon after the war, respecting the original structure of the 18th century.

The Brown Castle goes back to the 10th century. It is surrounded by wonderful gardens, with roses and arbors. It also hosts art exhibitions and wedding ceremonies.
