San Fruttuoso

San Fruttuoso

ART

In San Fruttuoso there is a suggestive abbey: The Abbey of San Fruttoso, which was buil between the end of the 10th and the beginning of the 11th century. The site was chosen by the monks for its calmness and peace, which made it an ideal place for meditation. From the 13th century, the powerful Genovese Doria family made some renovations, adding a lodge which overlooks the sea. To thank the family, the monks donated the crypt to them, where still nowadays we can see the tombs of the Doria, dating to the 13th century.
