  1. Begin by brewing a fresh shot of espresso. Use an espresso machine or a stovetop espresso maker for best results.
  2. While the espresso is brewing, heat milk (about 2/3 cup total) in a saucepan or use a steam wand on your espresso machine until it’s warm and slightly frothy.
  3. Froth the milk using a milk frother, steam wand, or by shaking it in a jar (then microwaving briefly) to create a thick, foamy layer.
  4. Pour the freshly brewed espresso into a cup.
  5. Gently pour the steamed milk over the espresso, holding back the foam with a spoon to control the pour.
  6. Spoon the milk foam on top to complete the cappuccino, aiming for equal parts espresso, steamed milk, and foam.
  7. Sprinkle a dash of cocoa powder or cinnamon on top if desired, and enjoy your homemade cappuccino.
